At Hoffman Cortes, sustainability means taking a balanced and holistic approach to meeting its social, environmental and economic responsibilities. Our sustainability goal is to infuse this philosophy  throughout the company, both in the office and in the field, working as a team with clients and designers who share this belief.

Our most recent green projects include Faultless Starch/Bon Ami’s newly rehabilitated headquarters in Kansas City’s West Bottoms. Hoffman Cortes’ construction management team reused materials salvaged from the project including the timbers and the floor boards in this 100-year-old building to build a new staircase and architectural panels, repair the floors, and salvaged bricks for use for repair and new walls.

Another sustainable project completed in the fall 2008 by Hoffman Cortes was the building of The Botwin Building. The construction team, owner Diane Botwin; architect, el dorado and Hoffman Cortes worked together from the beginning to make Diane’s vision a reality. The historic 1923 structure was completely destroyed by a fire in February 2007. The Hoffman Cortes construction team installed sustainable features that included energy efficient lighting, ventilated windows, ceiling fans, overhangs that provide natural shading, and a green planted roof that absorbs up to 70 percent of the rainwater, which reduces the building’s energy footprint. Multi-function glass acts as an art piece and was designed as a sunshade by making the lines more dense on the east and less dense south to keep the building warmer in cooler temps and vice versa in the summer months. Additionally, the building’s structure is made of steel from almost 100 percent recycled materials. For more information on this project please click here.
