O. H. Dean Building Restoration Completed
|
Our restoration division is completing extensive work on the historic, O. H. Dean Building at 37th & Main Street in midtown. Now the headquarters of the Reeves-Wiedeman Company, the two-story structure will house the operations of this plumbing supply wholesaler’s business as well as additional retail space.
Hoffman Cortes’ scope of work included paint stripping on the east and south walls; brick demo and replacement on the north wall; GFRC patching, coating and repointing on the west wall; and brick infills and toothing in multiple areas. We are particularly pleased with the historic terra cotta restoration on the west elevation, similar on a smaller scale to what we did at Mainstreet Theatre. This work restored another building by architect Henry Hoit (1873-1951) whose firm was well known in the area for its art deco style and iconic structures including Municipal Auditorium, Corinthian Hall (the Kansas City Museum), Kansas City Power & Light Building, and 909 Walnut Tower.

Hoffman Cortes Contracting Company Starts New Project
|
Hoffman Cortes Contracting Company is excited to start its new CM At-Risk project for the Johnson County Developmental Supports (JCDS) building at 105th & Lackman Road in Olathe, Kan.
The 60,000-square-foot building will undergo a complete renovation including the parking lot, building entrance, administrative space, consumer work floor areas, a clinic, retirement center, and its HVAC system which will involve incorporating a new mechanical system. The main challenge of the project is one Hoffman Cortes has successfully met in previous projects – completing renovation work while the facility is fully occupied and operating. What is so special about this project is the nature of the services provided by JCDS. It is the Johnson County agency that facilitates career and personal development for Johnson County residents with developmental disabilities. It serves more than 500 special needs individuals daily, requiring exceptional planning and sensitivity as the renovation is carried out. Hoffman Cortes scheduled its work over seven phases to accommodate the needs unique to this project.
JCDS is the latest of more than a half dozen projects completed with Johnson County. It is expected to take 14 months to complete.
